COMMUNICATION & PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

Taking physiology
beyond research.

Science becomes more meaningful when people can
understand it, question it and connect it with everyday life.

OGPhysiologist brings physiology beyond academic spaces through
science communication, storytelling, public engagement and
participatory science.

Science communication

Making science
easier to explore

Through articles, stories and reflections, OGPhysiologist explores the science of the
human body and the ways physiology connects with health, identity and everyday life.

Featured project

Seasons of Change

Exploring daylight, daily life and our biological clocks.

Seasons of Change is a citizen-science project exploring how changing daylight across the seasons connects with everyday routines and biological rhythms.
Participants explore these changes through observations from their own lives, creating an opportunity to connect everyday experience with the physiology of our internal body clocks.
OGPhysiologist will follow the project journey and share its science, progress and findings as the project develops.

SCIENCE IN SCHOOLS & COMMUNITIES

Turning curiosity into discovery.

OGPhysiologist brings biological science into wider learning environments through storytelling, interactive activities and physiology-focused engagement.
From introducing children to genetics and inheritance through science storytelling to exploring biological rhythms through citizen science, these activities encourage participants to ask questions, make observations and discover the physiology within everyday life.

COLLABORATE

FEATURED PROJECT

Seasons of Change: How Daylight Shapes Us

A citizen-science exploration of daylight and the human body clock.
How do changing daylight hours across the seasons influence the way we sleep, feel and move?
Seasons of Change: How Daylight Shapes Us is a Royal Society of Biology-funded citizen-science project exploring how changes in daylight from autumn through spring may relate to sleep timing, daytime alertness and physical activity.
Running from October 2026 to May 2027, the project invites participants to make simple monthly observations, connecting everyday experiences with the physiology of our internal body clocks.
The project is being delivered with school-community participation helping bring citizen science into everyday learning and family life.
Follow the science as it unfolds.
OGPhysiologist will document the project journey and share accessible insights along the way.
The findings will be revealed on OGPhysiologist in May 2027.
