Rather than dismissing difficult questions or giving children answers they cannot understand, the book aims to give parents and children a starting point for conversations about science.
Why I Wrote This Book
The idea began with a question
many parents hear
“Why do I look like Baba (Dad)?”
It was a simple question — but behind it was an entire world of genetics, inheritance, DNA, and
biology. It made me think about how often children ask remarkably scientific questions before they
even know what “science” means.
The Genie in Me grew from the belief that we should not silence that curiosity simply because the
scientific answer feels complicated. Instead, we can find ways to explain it — because sometimes a
child’s “Why?” is the beginning of a lifelong love of discovery.
